Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya, is in trouble because of his latest tweet insulting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the father of our Indian Constitution. Last Wednesday, a special SC/ST court in Jodhpur directed the police to lodge an FIR against him.
The petitioner D R Meghwal, who is an advocate by profession, said that he is deeply hurt by his tweet intending to spread hatred among the people. In an interview with TOI he said, “I learnt about Pandya’s comment through social media in January. It appeared quite derogatory for a figure like Ambedkar and was an attempt to spread hatred and create division in the society.” Meghwal is willing to get Hardik Pandya a suitable punishment for his crass act.
The tweet that landed the Indian cricketer in trouble read, “Which Ambedkar ??? The one who drafted a cross law and constitution or the one who spread the disease called reservation in the country.” This comment which gave rise to the complaint against the cricketer was posted on December 26, 2017.
Well, there is a twist in the story. Hardik Pandya’s original twitter account is @hardikpandya7 while the complaint has been lodged against a twitter handle @sirhardik3777. So, basically the comment has been uploaded from a parody account and not from his verified account.
Hardik Pandya, is a 24 year old all-rounder from Baroda who has played six test matches for India. He has also represented India in 38 ODIs and was retained by Mumbai Indians in the 11th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
On the contrary, cricketer has completely denied the accusations and is ready to make all the necessary submissions in the court to prove him innocent. He said “no such tweet and/or statement, whether on twitter or any other form of media, have been issued by me. The tweet in question was posted by a fake account using my name and display image. I use only my verified twitter handle to make official communications via twitter and the said tweet was posted by a spurious account, pretending to be me.” We hope things get well for the young Indian cricketer soon.
